Reeds Ferry® Helps Rebuild “Wolfie’s Legacy” in Sturbridge

When a powerful winter storm swept through Sturbridge, Massachusetts early in the winter of 2025, it destroyed more than just a structure—it shattered a place of healing. For years, the Wolfie’s Legacy Memorial Gazebo at Juno’s Place had stood as a sanctuary for grieving pet parents across New England and the entire U.S. It served as a tranquil space filled with thousands of dog tags, keepsakes, and handwritten notes honoring our beloved companions.

The loss of the gazebo was devastating to Deb Young and Gail Fairbanks, the two women who first created the memorial through their grassroots pet-advocacy work. Together, Deb and Gail have spent years rescuing abandoned dogs, nursing them back to health, and giving them a safe and loving home. One of those dogs was Wolfie—the soul and namesake of the memorial.

The Dog Who Started It All

Wolfie was a small dog with a big personality. He had been abandoned on a Worcester junkyard lot for 18 months, left to fend for himself through the freezing winter and scorching hot summer. When Deb finally rescued him, he arrived severely-ill, suffering from heartworm, Lyme disease, and renal failure. But despite everything he endured, Wolfie lived the rest of his days surrounded by love. He blossomed into a joyful, expressive dog whose charm left a mark on everyone who met him. After his passing, Deb and Gail created a small memorial in his honor —a simple way to keep Wolfie’s memory alive. What they didn’t expect was that others would want to share their own memories too.

The Storm That Changed Everything

Legacy Lost in Storm

In January 2025, a heavy tree crashed down on the memorial, completely destroying the structure. The devastation was heartbreaking. Not only was the gazebo gone, but everyone wondered whether Wolfie’s Legacy could ever be rebuilt. Deb and Gail immediately began searching for solutions, researching replacement structures, fundraising, and exploring every possible option to restore the sacred space. But challenges kept mounting—costs were high, suppliers fell through, and rebuilding the memorial began to feel out of reach.

A Reeds Ferry Shed Finds a New Purpose

At Reeds Ferry Sheds, we came across a Facebook article detailing the loss of the memorial and the struggle to rebuild. Even though our headquarters are in Hudson, NH and more than an hour away, we have plenty of customers in the Sturbridge area and knew we could help.

One of our soon-to-be-retired display sheds—a sturdy, Reeds Ferry Country Carriage was in decent condition and could make the perfect replacement structure. These display units often retire when we refresh our showroom, but this time, one of them had the chance to serve a far more meaningful purpose. We contacted Deb and Gail, arranged transportation, and delivered the shed to its new home in Sturbridge. Seeing the shed placed on-site, ready to become the new Wolfie’s Legacy Memorial, was a moving moment of satisfaction for our whole team.

The Reeds Ferry team mobilized quickly. Our team loaded one of our specialized delivery trucks with the shed. Upon arrival the install crew carefully navigated the terrain and gently placed the pre-built structure onto the gravel base. Soon, the new memorial shed stood in place, ready to welcome visitors once again. visitors gave a thumbs up, and our install guys gave themselves one too.

A Memorial That Grew Into a Movement

What started as a tribute to Wolfie became a community effort. People from across the country mailed dog tags, collars, photos, and handwritten messages, trusting Deb and Gail to treat each item with the care it deserved. Over time, more than 3,000 dog tags were received and lovingly hung inside the memorial. Families visited to reflect, grieve, and celebrate the pets that had brightened their lives. Wolfie’s Legacy became more than a memorial—it became a place where pet owners felt understood. A place of healing and connection.

A New Beginning for Wolfie’s Legacy

The new memorial structure offers a durable, accessible, comfortable space where visitors can sit protected from the elements while reading the touching tributes inside. Over the coming weeks, Deb and Gail will begin transforming the shed into a fully re-imagined Wolfie’s Legacy—complete with shelving, benches, and places to hang the thousands of tags sent in by grieving pet owners.

Deb and Gail were gracious to offer appreciation for our donation by mounting a beautiful plaque mounted on the wall of the memorial, and they both paid a visit to our factory showroom and gave Reeds our Operations Manager Laurie Blanchette, and General Manager Matt Moriarty a commemorative engraved in glass that we display with pride.

Wolfie’s Legacy is not just a project; it’s a lifeline to the families who have loved and lost their furry companions. It honors Wolfie, but also every pet that left paw prints on someone’s heart.
Reeds Ferry Sheds® was grateful for the opportunity to contribute to the effort. Wolfie’s story—of hardship, rescue, and unconditional love—embodies everything that makes the bond between humans and pets so special. To play a small role in helping his legacy continue is an honor.

Just had my new Reeds Ferry shed delivered. Worth every penny. You might find a less expensive shed but trust me, it won't be as good as a Reeds Ferry Shed. Plus a 30 year warranty!
From start to finish, Reeds Ferry was a pleasure to work with. The install crew on Truck #10 were very professional. I highly recommend Reeds Ferry Sheds for both quality and service.
No one else matched Reeds Ferry's quality or reputation, and after experiencing their customer service and the caliber of their installation team, it's hard to imagine any other shed being superior.
